Groby Spring 2009

Members of the band were in fine form at the 2009 Spring Leicestershire Brass Band Association annual open solo and quartet competition, held at Groby Community College.  The band members took several prizes, including first and second in the open duet for Sam Scutt, Graham Jacklin, Nick Lear and Richard Capstack respectively, as well as second and third places for Steve Barham in the air varie and slow melody classes.

A number of the band's younger members, Milli Jacklin 4th and Harry Lear 5th, Bethan Brown, Jack Brown, Marina Slee, Francis Gallimore, Lucy Capstack, Joanne McDonald and Jack Rudin also took part.

The band's quartet was pitched against some strong opposition, only managing a 4th place.  A bit more practice should soon put this right!

Sam Scutt and the band's MD, Graham Jacklin, took the top honours in the open duet class, fending off their nearest rivals, the band's principle cornet player, Nick Lear and his assistant, Richard Capstack.  In the end Sam and Graham were triumphant, playing a the duet 'Pleasant Moments' on two soprano cornets - most unusual!
